Copyright Policy and Open

Copyright law is the primary body of law governing information and knowledge, setting powerful defaults regarding how we create knowledge and it can be shared. Some of open's basic infrastructure (e.g., Creative Commons licenses), rely on copyright law, but also work to change its defaults.

To what extent can open advocacy benefit from advocacy in copyright policy? What should open advocates' priorities be in copyright policy and how might they reasonably achieve them? How can the OpenCon community work to ensure copyright's defaults do not conflict with—or possibly work to serve—the future of open?
